Whether you’re just getting started or you’re a seasoned skier, ski and snowboard equipment is a purchase that evolves with you. Your skiing/snowboarding style, physical growth, and even personal preferences change year to year, so your gear should, too.

At Boston Ski + Tennis, we’re here to guide you through those changes, ensuring you have the right equipment for every slope, every season.

Why Yearly Ski Equipment Updates Matter

Skiing and snowboarding are both dynamic sports, and your equipment should evolve with you. Whether your ability has improved, your body has changed, or you just want to take advantage of the latest technology, updating your ski and snowboard equipment each season is key to having the best experience on the slopes.

Maybe you’ve outgrown last year’s setup—literally, if you’re still growing—or your skiing or snowboarding style has shifted from casual to more aggressive. Even subtle changes in your weight, height, or skill level can have a significant impact on the type of skis you need.

And then there’s the gear itself. Ski and snowboard technology is constantly improving, which means new skis and snowboards are lighter, more responsive, and better suited to specific conditions.

At Boston Ski + Tennis, we believe that the right gear can take your skiing and snowboarding to the next level, whether that means renting for the season, buying your own gear, or simply keeping your current setup finely tuned. Let’s explore each option.

Seasonal Leasing at Boston Ski + Tennis

Not ready to commit to purchasing a new set of skis or a new board? Perhaps your kids are still growing. Whatever the reason, seasonal leasing is an excellent option for those who want flexibility and value.

By leasing gear for the entire season, you’ll save significantly compared to renting daily on the mountain—just a few days on the slopes can offset the cost of a full-season lease. It’s a smart, convenient choice for those who plan to hit the trails regularly.

At Boston Ski + Tennis, our leasing process is designed to keep things easy and stress-free. We focus primarily on seasonal leases, offering high-quality equipment for adults and kids alike.

While we do provide daily rentals for adults at our Westborough location, seasonal leasing is our specialty, giving you the freedom to enjoy top-notch gear all winter long.

We’ve even introduced a $99 seasonal ski or snowboard package for kids aged 2-5, making it easier than ever to get your youngest family members ready for the slopes. For families with growing kids, leasing skis or a snowboard can be especially practical, helping you avoid the expense of purchasing new gear every season.

Our Fit Guarantee means we’ll do our best to help you adjust your lease if your child outgrows their gear mid-season. While we can’t always guarantee every size will be available, we strive to provide solutions for your family that work.

NEW for 2024/25: To make skiing and snowboarding even more accessible for families, anyone 18 or younger who leases a seasonal package will receive a free Youth Season Pass to Tenney Mountain. This incredible perk adds even more value to our seasonal lease packages, helping you enjoy the slopes without breaking the bank.

Buying Skis or Snowboard

If you’re ready to take your skiing/snowboarding more seriously, buying new gear can give you the edge you need. Instead of waiting in line to rent, you just grab your own skis or snowboard—tuned to perfection—pop them on, and hit the slopes. That’s the kind of convenience and confidence you get when you own your own equipment.

But before you make the leap, it’s important to consider what type of skier you are. Are you a beginner who likes to take it slow on groomed trails?

Or maybe you’re an intermediate skier who enjoys a variety of terrains. And for those who thrive on speed and challenges, advanced carving or freeride skis might be your best bet.

At Boston Ski + Tennis, we take the guesswork out of buying skis and snowboards. Our team has tested everything we carry, so when you walk in, we can match you with the perfect gear for your skill level and style.

Whether you’re after all-mountain skis that can handle a little bit of everything or precision carving skis for those tighter turns, we’ve got you covered.

And don’t worry about outgrowing your gear. Your skiing style and preferences can evolve, and when it’s time for an upgrade, we’ve got you covered with our Trade-In Program.

Bring in your old skis, and we’ll help you trade up to a new pair—saving you money while ensuring you have equipment that matches your needs.

Tuning Skis

Even if you’re not in the market for new skis, keeping your current setup in peak condition is crucial. Ski tuning ensures your gear runs smoothly and performs at its best.

It doesn’t matter if you’re skiing a few times a season or hitting the slopes every weekend; regular ski tuning is essential for safety and performance. There are a few key components to ski tuning that every skier needs to be aware of:

Binding Adjustment

Bindings play a big role in ski safety, and making sure they’re properly adjusted should be your first priority each season. Your bindings need to release correctly in the event of a fall, and they’re calibrated based on key factors like your weight, age, skiing ability, and terrain preferences.

Such factors can change year to year. Weight fluctuations, age, and shifts in your skiing style all play a role in how your bindings should be set.

That’s why it’s so important to have them checked annually to ensure they’re perfectly tuned for your current needs. It’s a simple step that can make all the difference in keeping you safe on the slopes.

Edge Sharpening

Sharp edges give you better grip on icy terrain, helping you stay in control during those fast descents. If you’ve ever felt your skis sliding out from under you on hard-packed snow, it might be time to sharpen those edges.

Waxing

Freshly waxed skis glide more smoothly, which means you’ll spend less energy getting down the mountain. If your skis feel sluggish or you’re struggling to pick up speed, a fresh wax could make all the difference.

At Boston Ski + Tennis, our technicians are pros at keeping your skis in top shape. Whether you need a quick tune-up or a full-service adjustment, we’ll make sure your gear is ready to go before you hit the mountain.

How Yearly Ski and Snowboard Equipment Updates Benefit You

Skis leaned up against a wooden bench.

You might be wondering, “Do I really need to update my gear every year?” The answer is: not necessarily. But staying on top of yearly equipment updates—whether that’s through renting, buying, or tuning—ensures that your gear is aligned with your current needs.

Ski and snowboard technology evolves quickly, and what worked for you last season might not be the best option this year. Your equipment should reflect your growth as a skier or snowboarder, and that’s where we come in.

Our team at Boston Ski + Tennis will help you assess your needs and recommend the best course of action, whether it’s a quick tune-up, a rental for the season, or an entirely new setup.
